About Unconventional Diets
Jonathan Stockman, DVM, DACVIM is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine. He completed his veterinary training in Israel, where he also completed a clinical internship. Afterwards he completed a residency in medicine and surgery for companion non-domestic pets at UC Davis, followed by a second residency in Clinical Nutrition, also at UC Davis. Following board certification and examination, he became a diplomate by the American College of Veterinary Nutrition (ACVN). Later, he became a senior researcher at the Waltham Centre of Pet Nutrition in 2013 (currently, the Waltham Pet Science Institute), in the UK, researching the nutritional requirements and nutritional physiology of cats and dogs, and the implications of nutrition on aging pets. From 2016 until 2017 he completed a post-doc at Colorado State University, and later stayed as clinical faculty to establish a new clinical nutrition service at the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Colorado State University. There he combined research, clinical practice and teaching with training residents and interns.
Jonathan Stockman is a consultant on a prominent online veterinary consulting service (Veterinary Information Network®, Inc.) and is an assistant editor on two veterinary journals. He has also served on the board of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition between 2017 and 2020. His research is focused on the nutritional implications of high mineral intake in dogs and cat, nutritional physiology of aging, and nutrition in companion non-domestic species. He teaches animal nutrition and clinical veterinary nutrition for DVM students.
