Exotic pet emergencies can be some of the most overwhelming and stressful for small animal practitioners. This lecture will focus on how to approach exotic pet species (mammals, birds, and reptiles) when presenting on an emergency basis, including initial triage, stabilization, and diagnostic testing. Specific cases will be discussed to provide examples.

- Understand what constitutes an emergency for common exotic pet species
- Develop a standardized approach to stabilization and triage of exotic pet species
- Discuss common diseases afflicting mammals, birds, and reptiles that can present emergently
Dr. Vecere holds a BS in Biology from SUNY Geneseo and graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. During her studies, she actively led teams in the Wildlife Medical Clinic and trained at numerous zoo hospitals. She has completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship, followed by an internship and residency in Exotic Pet Medicine at the Long Island Bird and Exotics Vet Clinic. She currently works as an exotic pet specialist at Catskill Veterinary Services.
