Approach to the Respiratory Distress Patient: Is it the heart or the lungs? Identifying and treating respiratory emergencies in dogs and cats
A review of common presenting primary cardiac and pulmonary respiratory emergencies. The lecture will briefly review basic pathophysiology, review traditional diagnostic modalities to identify and discern between primary cardiac and pulmonary abnormalities in addition to some of the newer and more technically-advanced diagnostics techniques, and treatment recommendations for presenting clinical conditions through various case presentations.
Learning Objectives:
- Review basic cardiac and pulmonary pathophysiology contributing to disease states
- Review common and more advanced diagnostic techniques to in an effort to differentiate between cardiac and pulmonary disease states
- Review treatment and management recommendations for initial presentation and chronic management.
Megan Murray is currently a staff criticalist at Cornell University Veterinary Specialists (CUVS) in Stamford, CT. She graduated from University of Pennsylvania in 2016 and then continued her internship and residency training at UPenn before finishing in 2021 when she joined CUVS. Her practice interests include fluid therapy, toxicology, and polytrauma.
