A two-hour long course to discuss staging tests that can be performed in a primary care setting, discussing electrochemotherapy treatment and which cases are appropriate, and to discuss building strong referral relationships.

Learning Objectives:

  1. For primary care doctors to understand the testing that needs to be performed with various cancer diagnoses.
  2. A better understanding of electrochemotherapy and the patients that may benefit from the treatment.
  3. How to build strong relationships with oncologists to help facilitate treatment or palliative care.

Dr. Christine Merrick is a Board-Certified Veterinary Oncologist. After earning her DVM from Colorado State University, she completed a small-animal rotating internship at Auburn University. She then went on to do a specialty internship in oncology in Georgia. Dr. Merrick completed her oncology residency in California where she became board-certified and stayed on as a staff doctor.

Dr. Merrick was raised on the East Coast and decided to move “home” in 2017. Dr. Merrick practiced in Westchester County, New York before joining the team at Newtown Veterinary Specialists in 2024.

Dr. Merrick brings a wealth of expertise to our practice, and we are excited to introduce her specialized services, including electrochemotherapy, a cutting-edge cancer treatment never before offered at NVS. This addition significantly enhances our commitment to providing comprehensive care for our patients. Dr. Merrick is passionate about maintaining the human-animal bond. Her primary goal as an oncologist is to provide pets and their families with extending good quality time.
