Take advantage of this great opportunity and bring your whole team!  A buffet dinner will be offered starting at 6PM, with the lectures beginning at 6:30PM.  Details and registration info is below.  Register early in case we sell out!  We hope to see you there!

Presented by: Cyndie Courtney, DVM

Session 1: A Constructive Approach to Team Conflict

We tend to think that we are either "good" or "bad" at interpersonal conflict, but just like any other social skill, engaging in conflict productively is a skill we can develop and strengthen. Learn more about how conflict works and how any team member can engage in conflict more constructively.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Recognize different parts of the conflict cycle, then interpret what approaches could help address the conflict or prevent conflicts going forward.
  2. Create a conflict preparation plan to make conflict more productive when concerns arise.
  3. Practice using a non-violent communication approach to discussing concerns and negotiating solutions

Session 2: Handling Feedback That Hurts

Negative feedback - do you dismiss it or take it too personally? Try this values-based approach to sort through what part of their perspective can help you move forward.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Acknowledge even poorly delivered feedback can help us
  2. Name 3-5 key personal values
  3. Name steps to emotionally de-escalate from difficult feedback
  4. Use screening criteria against feedback for usefulness
  5. Solicit feedback using goals and FeedForward

Session 3: Dare to Repair - Rebuilding Trust after Miscommunication

After a conflict we are often left thinking “Now what?” Though professionals increasingly recognize the importance of repair in maintaining personal and professional relationships, for many once the worst is over, it’s tempting to just leave things alone. Learn, then practice both debriefing skills on these cases examples.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Assess the quality of conflict (rather than the absence of conflict) to gauge prognosis of perpetual conflict
  2. Name steps for debriefing after a conflict has occurred and the elements of a successful apology
  3. Practice applying these concepts for case studies
