Drug Therapies in GI Disease
There are a plethora of drugs used today in the treatment of GI disease in the dog and cat. How is one to choose what to use and when? Learn what’s new and what still works well in GI medications including anti-emetics, prokinectics, gastroprotectants, and immunosuppressive agents.

Chronic Vomiting in the Cat
Ever been woken from a deep sleep by your cat vomiting? You’re not alone. Chronic vomiting in the cat can have many causes including GI and non-GI disease. In this case based lecture, learn how to approach chronic vomiting in the cat including diagnostics and therapeutics.
Learning Objectives:
- Know the list of causes of chronic vomiting in the cat
- Determine a proper diagnostic plan for chronic vomiting in the cat
- Use available clinical and diagnostic information to develop a treatment plan for chronic vomiting in the cat
IRIS Guidelines – From Paper to Practice
The International Renal Interest Society (IRIS) was formed in 1998 with support from Novartis Animal Health and is now supported by Elanco Animal Health. IRIS is led by a board of 15 veterinarians with a special interest in nephrology. The mission of IRIS is to help veterinary practitioners diagnose and treat renal disease in dogs and cats. This includes acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and proteinuria. This lecture will focus on guidelines for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and their application to clinical practice.
Learning Objectives:
- Know the resources available for guiding management of chronic kidney disease
- Understand the application of IRIS guidelines to clinical patients with chronic kidney disease

For More Information:
Dr. Alex Gallagher is a 2001 graduate of the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. He completed a rotating internship at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine before spending two years in private practice. After an internal medicine internship at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Maitland, FL, Dr. Gallagher completed a residency in small animal internal medicine at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, earned a Master’s degree in Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences, and became board-certified in 2008. Afterwards, Dr. Gallagher spent 14 year on faculty at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine as a Clinical Assistant and then Clinical Associate Professor. In Aug 2022, he left UF to join Columbia Veterinary Emergency Trauma and Specialty in South Carolina as a staff internist. Dr. Gallagher’s interests include gastroenterology, endocrinology, and image-guided interventions. He currently serves as Past President of the Veterinary Interventional Radiology and Interventional Endoscopy Society.
