3Feel comfortable identifying organisms on ear cytology and choosing appropriate treatments based on ear cytology findings.

How to Play the Dermatology Game: Offense vs Defense for Allergic Disease

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, frustrating, multifactorial disease for both veterinarians and dog owners. This lifelong condition requires long-term management specially tailored to each patient. Learn how changing course from being purely reactive to flares and infection, to a proactive management strategy can help your patients and decrease frustration. Dr. Schnedeker will discuss current strategies in managing atopic dermatitis, including systemic and topical therapies, and show how taking action between flares can improve the quality of life of your dermatology patients.

Speaker biographies

Amy Schnedeker, DVM, MS, DACVD

Amy Schnedeker received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Cornell University in 2004. Following her undergraduate degree, Amy pursued veterinary medicine as a veterinary assistant for several years. In 2013 Dr. Schnedeker received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2014 Dr. Schnedeker completed a small animal internship with VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital, where she participated in rotations with surgery, emergency, and internal medicine. Dr. Schnedeker completed a dermatology residency with The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017 and obtained her board certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 2019. Dr. Schnedeker has a strong interest in treating resistant infections with new therapies such as blue LED light therapy. She has been published in Veterinary Dermatology with two articles, “Is low-level laser therapy useful as an adjunctive treatment for canine acral lick dermatitis? A randomized, double-blinded, sham-controlled study” and “In vitro bactericidal activity of blue light (465 nm) phototherapy on meticillin-susceptible and meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius.” Dr. Schnedeker is happy to be back in upstate New York and enjoys the color changes during the fall season. Amy enjoys baking and spending time with her family. She has one dog and two cats.
