Dr. Diel is Associate Professor of Virology in the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences and Director of the Virology Laboratory at the Cornell Animal Health Diagnostic Center, College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University. Dr. Diel’s research focus is the study of emerging viruses at the human animal interface including HPAI H5N1 and SARS-CoV-2. Dr. Diel led the Cornell team that were involved in detection of H5N1 spillover into dairy cows and other mammalian species.
